About Arch of Constantine

Constructed in 315 AD, this triumphal arch memorializes Constantine I's army victory over Maxentius' army in the Battle of Milvian Bridge on Oct. 28, 312 AD in the Roman Empire. The 85-foot wide by 69-foot high monument is located next to the Colosseum. Constantine's triumph was significant in religious history because it led him to convert to Christianity believing he prevailed because of the Christian symbol he carried into battle. The ruler's new faith brought widespread acceptance of Christianity within the Roman Empire.
