Conveniently located near Carlsbad Caverns National Park and Guadalupe Mountains National Park, the New Mexico city is located in the Chihuahuan Desert along the Pecos River. Carlsbad was originally established as Eddy in 1888 and then changed its name to Carlsbad in 1899 after the Bohemian spa Carlsbad after mineral springs were discovered.
