About Finger Lakes

These 11 long and slender lakes in Upstate New York received their name because they resemble fingers and are a popular vacation spot due to the region's magnificent natural beauty. The Finger Lakes was home to the Iroquois Native American tribes and displays evidence of prehistoric settlements. It is a popular wine-growing region with more than 100 wineries. The largest lake is the Seneca being 42,800 surface acres and called "The Lake Trout Capital of the World."
