This monumental white-concrete church dominates the low-rise Reykjavik skyline and its steeple, easily the highest point in Reykjavik, offers the best views in town of the city and the surrounding mountains and ocean. Hallgrimskirkja Church is home to a 5,275-pipe organ and a statue of the Viking explorer Leif Erikson, widely regarded as the first European to land in North America nearly 500 years before Christopher Columbus.
