Jacksonville may not generate as much hype as its counterparts to the south, but it is just as, if not more, entertaining than all of them combined. Major attractions/events include Jacksonville Landing, where tattoo artists rub shoulders with celebrated chefs and local entrepreneurs; the Riverside-Avondale District, home to over 5,000 historic buildings; and the monthly Downtown Art Walk exhibiting the works of dozens of local artists in participating bars, galleries, restaurants and coffee shops - more than 40 venues in all. A taste of Jacksonville's checkered past may be had in the slave quarters at Kingsley Plantation. But the icing on the cake is without a doubt Jacksonville's gorgeous white-sand beaches and the long list of water activities on offer there.
