About Lake Geneva

Lake Geneva is the largest lake along the Rhone. Its northern shore is in Switzerland and its southern shore in France. Originally called Lacus Lemanus by the Romans, the name of the lake has changed several times, but now reverts to Lac Leman (though in English it is still Lake Geneva). The croissant-shaped lake is lined with chateaus like the Chateaux Chillon that recall its medieval history. Major cities on the lake include Geneva, Lausanne and Montreux. Much of the region between these cities (including La Cote between Geneva and Lausanne) is home to small villages and award-winning vineyards.
