About Lucerne Water Tower

This 13th Century octagon-shaped fort translated in German as Wasserturm was used as a watch tower, prison, dungeon, treasury and archive. Water Tower can only be seen from the outside as the inside is a private club. The medieval structure in addition to nearby Chapel Bridge are Lucerne's most popular landmarks. Alpine swifts having been occupying the tower's roof during the spring for years and the building also is topped with an old stork's nest.

Chapel Bridge

One of the oldest covered bridges in Europe dates back to 1333 and is known as Kapellbruecke in its German-speaking home of Lucerne, Switzerland. Much of 669-foot Chapel Bridge located where Lake Lucerne meets River Reuss had to be reconstructed after a 1993 fire. There are magnificent 17th century paintings inside the bridge portraying the city's and country's history.
