This second-largest city in the Netherlands has one of the largest ports in the world and the largest in Europe. Rotterdam, often referred to as the “Gateway to Europe,” is home of the famous Erasmus University and Erasmus Bridge, aka “The Swan,” an icon of Rotterdam that has been used in many Hollywood movies. Rotterdam is also known for its post-modern architecture, multiethnic population, thriving nightlife and world-class museums, including the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen which has a permanent collection spanning all eras of Dutch and European art.
